Jeff Spencer, the GCAGS Historian, is arranging a display of historical photos at the Kilgore East Texas Oilfield Museum. He wrote a short paper for GCAGS several years ago about Jack Nolan, a photographer known for his oil field photography in both West Texas in the late 1920s/early 1930s and then in East Texas during the boom of the early 30s. Many of his photographs were sold as RPPC's (real photo postcards).
This year is the 50th anniversary of Nolan’s death, so we thought an event to show his work and talk about him and the early history of the East Texas oil field through photos would be appropriate.
The historical photo exhibit will run from August 6th until early December. Jeff Spencer is scheduled to give his talk at the Museum on Thursday evening, September 15th.
