Abstract
Salt was once the most avoided medium in the Gulf of Mexico for operators- until the realization that it’s the easiest substance to drill through if you plan appropriately for sutures and inclusions. Some salt bodies are completely benign, while others have resulted in catastrophic failure and well abandonment because of mobile salt and unprognosed pressures. Chris will share stories, cuttings images and logs from the Puma Salt dome in the Gulf of Mexico which has been explored for more than two decades and still surprises us today.
