The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents met on the SFA campus for a regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, November 2nd. The Board of Regents had previously requested that Dr. Wesley Brown, head of the Geology Department, review the contributions made to the Department by the East Texas Geological Society. When the Regents saw the level of support from the ETGS, they asked Dr. Brown to invite members of the Society to the Board of Regents meeting to be recognized for the support we, as a Society, have provided to SFA.
Representatives from the East Texas Geological Society, past President Rich Adams, past President and current Education Coordinator Al Jasper, and current President Dale Short were able to attend the Board meeting. Dr. Brown made a brief presentation to the Board, detailing the support from the Society to the SFA Geology Department. The Board of Regents expressed their appreciation for our contributions to the students and staff of Stephen F. Austin State University.
It was an honor to be recognized for our contributions. To me, it exemplifies two of my objectives as President of the Society: Further the science of geology and help educate the future generation of geologists.
Best Regards,
Dale Short
