April 2015 - Dale Short

In my President’s letter of March 2015, I discussed the downsizing that is currently taking place in our industry as a response to lower product prices.  I discussed that one of the ways to deal with this condition is to expand your professional network and to make yourself more valuable to your current or future employer by also expanding your professional skills.

Because of the relationship between the East Texas Geological Society and the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, we have been provided with a unique opportunity by the AAPG Education program.  AAPG has an E-symposium on the Grand Canyon that normally costs $75, but is being offered free of charge to the members of the ETGS.  This is a “virtual” field trip to demonstrate some of the features participants will see if they elect to register for the full field seminar on “Geology of the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion National Park” which takes place May 23-29, 2015.

Here is the link to the Virtual Field Trip / Seminar -- Grand Canyon, Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon http://education.aapg.org/hayes/.

I encourage you to take the “virtual” field trip and hope that will provide the motivation to sign up for the full field seminar.

Best Regards,

Dale Short

President, East Texas Geological Society
