ETGS Member,
I hope all who attended NAPE last week had a productive trip making new connections and catching up with friends. It was a challenging week with the winter storm coming through Texas, and I hope that everyone’s homes made it through safely.
The Society has some great events coming up that I would like to announce. For our February 15 meeting, Jeff Spencer will present “Jack Nolan – Oil Field Photographer”, which will give some great historical perspective on the East Texas Basin. Jack Nolan’s photographs bring new life to a time that many of us know of being a part of East Texan oil industry but haven’t seen in such detail. I encourage you all to sign up and please RSVP prior to the meeting. Hollytree bases their buffet on signed up attendance, so it is very appreciated to let us know early. Thank you!
At the end of the following week, on February 23-24, we will be hosting Dr. Jeff Dravis for a two-day short course on “CARBONATE PLAY DEVELOPMENT IN MESOZOIC SEQUENCES OF THE U.S. GULF RIM Influence of Physiographic Setting and Structural Controls”. This course is meant to enhance our understanding of these carbonate plays so that we may better exploit these resources. Dr. Dravis’ courses are great for both young professionals looking to learn from one of the best carbonate researchers around as well as the seasoned geologist looking to refresh and expand their understanding of these prolific reservoirs. The fee of $200 will include a booklet of all presented slides and lunch included. Student attendees will be able to participate for free. We are able to give this opportunity at such a great price because of our great local sponsors. First, I’d like to thank XTO Energy for offering to host the event in their large presentation room. We have done courses there before and it is a great venue. That said, we still have sponsorship opportunities available, so if your company would like to be a part of this event, please contact me at Hunter@CarrResources.com. We look forward to seeing you! Please sign up for this event here.
The next month, on March 28th, the society will be hosting our Tech and Prospect Expo. As you know, this is a great opportunity to share prospects and services to our local geo community. We have some great speakers that we are looking forward to hosting. Also, for those in town the night before, please be sure to come by our Icebreaker event on the night of the 27th. It will be hosted again at Texas Music City Grill & Smokehouse. Register for the Expo here.
Our friends at the Houston Geological Society would also like to let our membership know that they will be hosting their annual Shrimp Peel & Crawfish Boil on Friday, April 21st. This year they are hosting the event right before GeoGulf23 so it will be a great opportunity to help the HGS celebrate its 100th year anniversary with great food and networking before the conference begins. Please register at HGS.org.
Finally, registration has begun for this year’s GeoGulf23 in Houston on April 23-25. This year’s conference will have speakers like astronauts Harrison “Jack” Schmitt and Jessica Waters, and some great short courses to fill your time between the HGS Crawfish Boil and the start of the conference. I hope to see you all down there! Register for GeoGulf23 here. Early bird registration until February 24.
Thank you,
Hunter Carr
